Throughout the years the immigrants that made Canada and more specifically the GTA their home always left a part of themselves in their beloved town of Torella del Sannio.
Club history
For many the decision to come to Canada came with much emotional torment as they felt they'd leave behind their traditions, foods, religious beliefs and most importantly their culture. However, in 1972 a group of determined and passionate people from the small village in the hills of Molise came together and founded the Torella Recreation Club in Toronto. Although over the years the club has evolved, with much hard work and committment the social club is still a thriving community in 2015.
Today
Today we are honoured and pleased that over forty years later the essence of what kept the Torellessi Canadese community together in the early years, the beloved patron Saint San lament Martire is still the focal point that brings our community together twice a year.
Currently approximately 150 families participate in the various events, with a significant participation coming from our second and third generations. The continued focus of the Torella Recreation Club will be to provide the various generations a platform to come together in a common thread of community, tradition and heritage between Canada and a small yet significant town in the foot hills of Molise, Italy
“When I’m at an event, I almost feel like I never left the old country. We’re all family.”
